lesbians responding to that post with “a lesbiab? engage in pop culture????? n0!!!! never acknowlege men……. nvr talk 2 them!!!! what is a singer???? we all live in isolated communes in the mountains in amazonian nudism camps” and editing the “yet you participate in society” meme to say “I don’t like men, I’m a lesbian / yet you participate in men, curious! I am very intelligent” as though 1) Keith Haring’s art and identity as an HIV positive gay man are just male-centric popular culture with no specific or sensitive elements that (especially afab) lesbians could have any obligation to be cautious about their engagement with and 2) not being attracted to men is just naturally synonymous with being loudly negative about them as a group with no effort to have consideration for even the marginalized groups of men whose works they actively utilize
the point is that people are constantly co-opting the art and struggles of gay men while vilifying them as part of a soulless monolith! the point is that this is ironic, inconsiderate, and cruel!

as much joy as swells in my heart, choking my voice and spilling over into tears at the vision and thought of lesbians, lesbian relationships, and lesbian communities, there are deeply fucked up community norms on lesbian and more broadly wlw tumblr that I’m convinced result in substantial emotional harm to both lesbians and other members of the LGBTQ community and “insincere-to-semi-sincere-to-outright-determined belief that if you’re not a woman you don’t really have feelings” is a big one of them.
