tbh don’t like it when people post/reblog pics of women w/ diverse body types, including fat women, but only thin and muscular men. like, do you think that fat people are beautiful, or that thin people are beautiful and body positivity is politically important for women?

like, ultimately the question here is, do you think a fat body is beautiful the way a thin or muscular body is beautiful? do you think a soft, thick waist is as beautiful as a hard and narrow one? or do you think that the beauty of a woman is in fashion and virtue, so it’s okay if she’s fat (in a certain curvy way, while she wears just the right clothes in just the right light), but the beauty of a man is in your beholding eye, and if he’s fat he’s at best unremarkable, lazy, not trying to impress the way he should, and at worst [cruelty redacted]?

I’m not saying that men have it worse with fatphobia overall, or that everyone has to become totally enchanted by fat bodies or their politics are garbage, but I think there are a lot of people who have unpacked fatphobic beauty standards as far as “it is important that fat women be allowed to occupy the same aesthetic spaces as thin women” and absolutely no farther. being concerned with fatphobia inasmuch as it intersects with other forms of marginalization, but finding fatphobia alone trivial and concern with it frivolous. I think a vital part of totally tearing down these standards — not just conceding that some fat people can still dress well and look good, but really embracing the idea that being fat is an equal beauty to being thin — is to not visibly idolize thin, muscular man after thin, muscular man.

additionally, I think a lot of us are more comfortable with nice aesthetic art about women and thirstposts about men, because posting about wanting to fuck women feels scary and predatory, and posting about wanting to fuck men feels almost martyrlike. and the combination of this with posting fat women and not fat men is that, in browsing a blog, you can see fat people (fat women) photographed, illustrated, and discussed as fashionable, and admirable, and important, but not hot. because it feels scary and predatory to say that they’re hot. the problem with this is that there is already a dearth of acknowledgement of the fact that fat people are, in fact, very hot, and not saying that fat people are hot does not help to solve this problem.

the reason I say “fat people are hot” and not “fat people can be hot” is that I don’t mean that fat people can be hot… if they dress well. if they have even faces, soft skin, stylish hair. if they’re funny, talented, sweet. I mean “fat people are hot” the way “muscular people are hot” — being fat is already a positive, attractive trait. if your inclination is to disagree, to say “no, it isn’t”, evaluate that.
