*27 year old with a bad Harry Potter ship voice* if you had better brains you would have recognized that all the fanfiction you were reading from age eleven onwards was fictional so it totally didn’t reflect reality at all except for where it served as a teaching tool for you to understand yourself and others, which was totally the intent and why fandom is a force for good. if you weren’t a tumblr baby who doesn’t understand fiction you would’ve been able to neatly split which fantasies are ok and which ones are wrong in real life. as a tween. it’s not an unsafe environment for children, you’re just a fool!

some kind of weird gender politics switch got flipped in my brain bc I’m watching a Canadian drama where they keep showing this one guy shirtless and I’m automatically like YOU CANT SHOW THAT ON TELEVISION even though I know… you can… it’s completely culturally acceptable in Canada and the United States to show cis men shirtless.. but my brain thinks cis men’s chests have an equivalent explicit value to anyone else’s now, apparently

unrelated I’m watching a Spanish drama (el ministerio Del tiempo) that just had an intensely weird episode about the Spanish Inquisition. it’s simultaneously very frank about antisemitism and very uh weird about Jewish characters. like “Jewish character who gets saved from being burned at the stake decides he’s actually cool with dying because oh you know.” weird.

trying to get my grandma to have slightly less blatantly antiscientific views about food and supplement ingredients is wild bc 1) she thinks “chemicals” are bad on principle but doesn’t apply this to oft-synthesized supplements like glucosamine chondroitin and 2) if you successfully appeal to her sensibilities about one thing (“MSG is just made by fermenting vegetables. some people are allergic but for most people it’s ok!”) she immediately has another half-remembered spurious health claim to replace it with (“magnesium stearate is some kind of poison”)
