I watched a cut of “Yael’s Gender Identity Storyline” from Degrassi: Next Class the other day and it was a really… interesting take on nonbinary existence. it was interesting how some stuff was super relatable and resonant, like, uh, dysphoria, but there was other stuff that was just… orthogonal to my nonbinary experiences. use of genderfluid/genderqueer instead of nonbinary, not identifying with any other LGBT labels, not seeking out community with other lgbtq people, not identifying as gay or bisexual. it’s not like “oh that would never happen” but I… don’t know anyone it’s happened to, that’s for sure. of course, my experiences aren’t universal, and are highly dependent on my environment.
