Well for starters, post Wizard of Oz witches theoretically can still count if the context is jewish caricature. But here’s the poster for one of the most antisemitic movies of all time made as german propaganda
so the image exists?? you feelthe trope of green skin from what i understand originates in the middle ages??. But it’s also a more common thing. Lots of jewish people (though judaism is an ethnicity and a religion and can have people from every skin tone) have olive undertones as you remark. This creates an association between green skin and jewish people. people describe olive tones as witchy and inherently evil (you can see it in media all the time and im just too lazy to grab it, but you can imagine.) This when combined with the fact that taako is a magic user, stole a buncha stuff at the start with reckless abandon, is often drawn with a large nose, ect. creates the stereotype/caricature of a greedy jew. It’s just coded that way. As most of the people who were kinda hurt by this agree on that matter.
Stereotypes/tropes are typically an extension of a trait. In this case it’s warm, greenish undertones in skin.
and in the end, because I really couldn’t find a lot of documentation on it officially, but ive heard about this through word of mouth in jewish communities my whole life and from parents and grandparents ect. if this isn’t a REAL THING. but jewish people AND antisemites associate the green-faced witch with jewish people (which they do), then it becomes culturally problematic. we didn’t make it up?? jews are oppressed enough, we dont want to add more bullshit to that heaping pile we already have to deal with. i didnt question it because ive grown up hearing it
perhaps the green skin trope IS retroactive, we look at people with hooked noses and warts and big hats and we see green/dark skin. then that trait inherently becomes part of the pile. it doesn’t make it any less real.
i guess thats my perspective, hopefully it helps. people dont’ wanna be oppressed, they’re not going to invent new ways of oppressing themselves.
