honestly power rangers is a pretty good special interest for me. it’s fun, engaging, easy to be into. it’s not overwhelming and it can give me a lot of strength. I usually think of “narratives for late teens/early 20s people to relate to and draw strength from” as being narratives about confusion, unmooredness, suffering - going off to college and being stranded without a friend group, being angry, unpacking trauma or being traumatized. while power rangers certainly isn’t targeted at people in this age group, I feel that I can draw a lot of inspiration from the idea of “people in late adolescence/coming out of adolescence, learning to be responsible members of the community who deal with their problems maturely and with love and care for those around them.” like, narratives about this age group are usually, in fact, about being hopelessly immature and hurting others. it’s good to have a narrative that’s actually about positive personal growth.
