@hailmaryfullofgrace55675 when will you stop popping off at the mouth to diminish the importance of narratives that portray black and brown experiences to “monarchies are baaaad” or “resources!! Economics!! Portion size!” Like what?? Shut your white ass up I’m done
I’m honestly going to assume that this is going to be our last exchange (if me saying something counts as an exchange, Idk if you read or respond to this kind of reply) because, uhhhh, I don’t think that… we are going to get along in the future, I guess? I’m just going to reply to both of the things you’re talking about, not because I think you will care about these opinions, just, idk, to have my opinions about them.
w/r/t monarchy is bad, about Elena of Avalor: honestly, apology for being disruptive in the chat in the next paragraph, but I’m going to stand by my actual opinion. the political underpinnings of the princess genre are that monarchs are good, deserving people. the move in popularly video, represented by Sophia the First and Elena of Avalor (and really exemplified by the Princess Diaries, which were fucking terrible about this) toward representing princesses not as fairytale somethings but as people with actual political roles and control over people’s lives, imo puts the idea of “a nice person can be a good unelected political power” even more at the forefront. i don’t think it’s a big deal, that it makes a piece of media bad or unworthy of consumption, or that the political influence on people is particularly significant. I just think it’s… true. honestly, I don’t think that pointing stuff like this out about a narrative diminishes it. I can accept that other people feel otherwise, but I’m never going to internalize “not critically analyzing texts because they’re too Important”. it’s against both my personal political ethics and, honestly, my ethnoreligious background. I accept that my opinions and analysis of certain types of media mean less than those of people in relevant groups, and that my analysis may be bad, wrong, bigoted, ignorant, etc. honestly, I appreciate the callout(s).
I genuinely apologize for disrupting the viewing. I think that mainstream narratives of power and personhood, including the politically dubious ones (that is, literally every mainstream narrative, it’s not like there are any that are “politically pure”) are an extremely important area of media to be representative of all people - Elena of Avalor’s representation of Latinx monarchy being a shining example. it was inappropriate of me to make the kind of commentary that I did in the chat while people were trying to enjoy that, and I hope that I didn’t cause any lasting irritation or hurt to anyone in the stream. I appreciate the pushback against my behavior, and again, apologize for irritation and hurt that I caused through my inappropriate commentary.
w/r/t the zootopia thing… It was an objectively incorrect, to the point of AU, reading of the scene (and movie as a whole) meant to spackle over some logic holes in the speculative fiction aspects of the zootopia setting. it was in no way meant as political commentary, on the movie or otherwise. In that, you’re definitely right about my diminishing of the the movie’s allegory - I basically made an AU where it wasn’t a narrative about racism. I’m going to think about what this erasure of the canon narrative means for a bit, and probably replace the post with an explanation and apology. again, I appreciate the callout
